Description

Jackal for the NES is a top-down run-and-gun action game in which you pilot an armed jeep through enemy territory to rescue prisoners of war. The core experience blends vehicle-based shooting with boss encounters across a sequence of stages, all rendered in classic 2D sprite-based graphics.

Gameplay centers on movement with an eight-direction joystick and two attack controls. The jeep's machine gun fires upward by default, while the grenade launcher fires in the direction the vehicle is facing and can be upgraded to missiles for longer reach and spread. Prisoners rescued from enemy camps fill the jeep's capacity, and filling capacity enables helicopter extraction at a nearby heliport. The NES version divides the mission into six checkpoints Alpha, Baker, Charlie, Delta, Tango, and Zulu, each culminating in a boss encounter.

The title supports single-player play and two-player local multiplayer, with both jeeps available simultaneously during co-op play. Players can join in during the course of a session as they control separate jeeps, each with its own bounty of POWs to extract.
