WWF Wrestlemania Challenge

Description

WWF WrestleMania Challenge for the NES is a 1990 professional wrestling game based on the World Wrestling Federation. Developed by Rare and released under the LJN label, the title features nine playable wrestlers and supports both single-player and two-player competition with multiple match formats.

Gameplay centers on ring-based action delivered from a high-angle, isometric view. Players control wrestlers to perform punches, kicks, grapples, throws, and running attacks, with each character offering a distinct but compact moveset. Matches emphasize timing, positioning, and energy management as wrestlers vie for pinfalls or submissions.

Game modes include one-on-one bouts, tag team matches, a three-on-three Survivor Series elimination format, and a championship path that lets you lead a custom “Yourself” through the roster. A dedicated two-player tag team championship mode lets players team up to face the wrestlers in a series of tag bouts.

This title is well-suited for fans of arcade-style wrestling and NES collectors who value the roster options—Hulk Hogan, André the Giant, and others—as well as the unique Yourself character and the tag-team dynamics that accompany the roster.

On the NES, WWF WrestleMania Challenge presents a 2D sprite-based ring environment with straightforward controls and fast-paced bouts designed for quick, repeatable sessions. The game centers on accessible action and tournament-style formats that encourage friendly competition between players.
